I started working for Platinum Disc Jockeys back in 2001, after Brian had been bugging me for well over a year to join his team. He kept telling me my personality – as well as my size- would make me a great entertainer. I finally gave in and agreed to give it a shot, it was one of the best decisions I have ever made.
Over the past several years I have had the pleasure of meeting so many different types of people as I work with them to plan their party or wedding reception and then get to meet their family and friends at the event. I’ve been exposed to cultures and traditions I would have never discovered had it not been for Platinum. Until I started working as a DJ, I never knew what a Hora, Tarantella or a Paebek Tea Ceremony was. Through my family, I had a background in radio and music and was exposed very early in life to many jazz influences. Now through Platinum, my knowledge of music and the different types, cultural influences and styles has grown as well.
Every week I am asked to do something a little different as each party has a different and unique style. Oldies, Motown, the great songs from the late 70’s right through today are what I get asked to play on a weekly basis. I enjoy the planning process, helping my clients identify the types of music and songs they feel will make their party a success, but I really enjoy playing the music and making the night a huge success. There is nothing better than making a room full of people laugh, smile and dance by playing music. And when I hit “PLAY” to start to start the next song and the crowd roars their approval- there’s no better feeling than that.
Because I am African-American, I am often asked to work at multi-cultural events, but whether you are Asian, African-American, Irish, Italian or anything else, it doesn’t matter who or what you are, there’s only one question that really matters- what song can I play to get you out on the dance floor?
